Peter Callesen

Peter Callesen was born in 1967 in Denmar. The main thing he does is working almost exclusively with white paper. the type of paper he uses is the type we use to carry all form of media today. Meaning, he chooses something so common for his art, yet makes it so unique. Peter takes a plain, flat sheet of white paper and manipulates it to become something amazingly beautiful. He makes paper cut sculptures which essentially means he slices the paper and pops bits and pieces of it up to make something we can recognize. His attention to detail it utter brilliance. It's hard to believe that his stuff is made with paper, it often looks a lot more dense, and durable then it really is. The empty spaces left behind can sometimes be seeing representing shadows.
Peter has many, many pieces varying on small scale works to larger scale pieces.
Apart from being known mostly for his work with paper, Peter has also done a wide variety of installations made with snow, ice, floating on water and even some performance art pieces.
I really love Peter Callesen's work, because of the simplicity of the white paper, and how strong and haunting the frozen images feel. A lot of his work looks like it portrays a story or a hidden meaning that I would love to dissect to bits.
