Segregation in the 50s

Segregation was a big part f the 50s. The main segregation was against black people. They had a lot less opportunities then white people. Even though in many situations they would told they would get the exact same treatment as white people, this was not the case. A prime example of this is the schooling facilities. There were schools for white people, and then there were schools for black people. It was said that these two types of schools would cater the exact same needs, and would have the same materials. However this was not the case. The environment in the black schools and the resources they had were very much different then those in the white school. To be blunt, it was worse.
It was almost as though black people were bossed around. Told what exactly they were supposed to do in life. Even that they weren't allowed to marry white people. Even where they were supposed to sit on the bus.

It was ridiculous.

However, eventually they got fed up and they took a stand. They started to use non-violence to solve certain issues. From boycotting products, to refusing to move from the front of the bus.
These simple, peaceful protests turned out to be very effective in getting rid of the Jim Crow laws.

Now a days it's a lot better then it was in the past. Except for the new Afrocentric school, to me that just seems like we are going a step backwards. But besides that, things seem to be a lot better then the past, people can go to whatever school they want to, marry who they want to and there aren't different movie theaters for you to attend depending on your race. Canada is more open to things then the US though... there are quite a few places in the US that are still very racist. With time this will all change.
